The Gold Florin to François-Henri Pinault
Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella: “He has believed in ‘Made in Italy’ and given many opportunities to hundreds of young people in the area”.
The Gold Florin of the city of Florence, made by Master Goldsmith Paolo Penko to François-Henri Pinault, president and CEO of Kering. The city’s highest honour was presented to the French entrepreneur by Mayor Dario Nardella in the Sala degli Elementi in Palazzo Vecchio.
François-Henri Pinault is a courageous and visionary entrepreneur,” said Mayor Nardella, “who has always chosen to dare, even taking risks, with the aim of making Kering the most influential luxury group in the world and has always been attentive to corporate welfare policies. We decided to award the Gold Florin to Pinault,” continued Nardella, “because he has done two very important things for our city and our territory: he has believed in ‘Made in Italy’, despite the fact that the group to which Gucci belongs is French, and he has given hundreds of young people many opportunities. This is a Fiorino with which we say thank you to the Kering Group and to Gucci and to go on like this because we hope that investments will continue in our territory”.
These are the motivations for the Gold Florin:
“The close and virtuous link between Kering and Florence and Tuscany was born with Gucci, but it does not end with the Florentine brand. After Gucci ArtLab, an avant-garde centre of industrial craftsmanship and experimentation laboratory for Gucci’s leather goods and footwear products, inaugurated in 2018, Saint Laurent will also land in our metropolitan area for the development of its leather goods. Kering in Tuscany also means a commitment to the Manifattura Richard Ginori, launching a long process of repositioning and relaunching the historic porcelain brand, known and appreciated worldwide.
Florence’s recognition of François-Henri Pinault, a courageous and visionary entrepreneur who has always chosen to be daring, even taking risks, with the aim of making Kering the most influential luxury group in the world and has always been attentive to corporate welfare policies. He is an entrepreneur who believes in creativity, curiosity, passion and imagination, but also believes that business should look beyond mere financial performance to higher goals that improve the well-being of workers and the planet in general, and has been committed for years to the fight against global warming and the protection of biodiversity.
