WHO WE ARE
Paolo Penko
Paolo Penko, Master Goldsmith, designer and sculptor, Florentine by birth, has assimilated from his city all the fascination of Renaissance art of which he is a profound connoisseur, and which has inspired many of his works.
His city, Florence, is the primary source of inspiration for his jewels and creations which resemble the volutes, spirals, friezes, small geometries and inlays designed by the master craftsmen of Florentine architecture.
Open-work, scorper engraving, “niello” and damascening are the techniques so skilfully used by Maestro Penko to create not only his gold jewellery, but also the silverware where his keen eye to detail and balance of proportions are highly distinctive elements.
He has produced numerous works for the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, from the missal cover to the monstrance, as well as the forty chalices and the Crucifix for the Eucharist Table created for the Holy Mass celebrated by Pope Francis in Florence in November 2016.
His passion for sacred art made him one of the founders and also a teacher at the Sacred Art School of Florence.
Some of his most significant works have even entered to form part of the Bargello National Museum and the Silver Museum in Palazzo Pitti in Florence.
On June 23, 2019, he received the “Gold Florin” of the city of Florence, the highest Florentine honour, awarded every year by the municipal administration to personalities and organisations that have distinguished themselves in their commitment and love for the city.
