The Gold Florin to Campriani
Multi-Olympic champion Niccolò Campriani has been awarded with the Gold Florin of the City of Florence, created by master goldsmith Paolo Penko. It was presented today at the Buontalenti Institute by Mayor Dario Nardella.
The ceremony took place as part of the project to raise awareness among young people in Florentine schools launched by the Municipality of Florence and the Ministry of Education last year and which is now starting up again with new stages involving personalities from the world of sport, entertainment and culture.
These are the reasons for the Gold Florin: “He is an Italian marksman, winner of three gold medals and one silver medal at the Olympic Games. After taking part in the 2008 Olympic Games with a 12th place finish in the 10 metre rifle speciality, he won the gold medal at the 2009 European Championships. On 31 July 2010 he won the gold medal at the World Shooting Championships in the 10-metre rifle speciality, thus also qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games. He was also the first Italian in the history of shooting to win an individual world title. In the same competition, he also won a bronze medal in the team event in the same speciality. In 2011, he won a bronze medal at the European Championships. In the same year, he graduated in engineering management from West Virginia University in Morgantown. On 29 July 2012, he won silver at the Olympic Games in the 10-meter rifle final; on 6 August, he won gold in the 50-meter rifle three-position final. On 8 August 2016, he became Olympic champion in the 10-meter air rifle, with an Olympic record of 206.1; on 14 August 2016, he won his second gold medal in a row in the 50-meter 3-position rifle, with a final score of 458.8.
