Description
Earrings with a silver reproduction of the Florentine florin minted in 1416 by the Lord of the Gold Mint, Salomone di Carlo Strozzi. On one side of the coin is the Florentine lily, the symbol of the city, and on the other the patron saint, St John the Baptist. It has always been the custom of the Florentines to give a florin as a sign of good omen, particularly on the occasion of a birth, accompanying the gift with the wish that “a florin today for a thousand florins tomorrow”.
