Description
Pendant with a silver reproduction of the Florentine florin minted in 1416 by the Lord of the Gold Mint, Salomone di Carlo Strozzi. One side of the coin depicts the Florentine lily, the symbol of the city, and the other the patron saint, St John the Baptist. It has always been the custom of the Florentines to give a florin as a sign of good omen, and particularly on the occasion of a birth, accompanying the gift with the wish “a florin today for a thousand florins tomorrow”.
